Halito! Welcome to the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Health Care Services. It is with great pride that I showcase the health care delivery system of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
Our vision, "To achieve the healthiest beneficiary population by providing the best rural health care in America!" is not just a dream of ours but a realistic goal and everyday we are moving one step closer to achieving our vision. If you notice one of the key items of our vision statement is beneficiary population and that means you, our patients. In our approach to delivering health care we want to make sure that that you, your family, and loved ones all are at ease and feel very confident about the health care that you receive. The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is a very close knit family and we feel that our patients deserve to be treated as such. We want to make sure you are treated with dignity and respect no matter which service we may be providing for you.
In regards to health services the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma has come a long way. We still believe in a public health model approach to our delivery of health care. What this means is we want to make sure and try to prevent, intervene, as well as treat diseases that affect our patients. We have an emphasis on primary care but we are still trying to find ways to fund specialty care that is so desperately needed. Since 1997 when Chief Pyle took over the leadership of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, we have seen tremendous growth within the health services. We have grown from a medical staff of 22 to now in excess of 45. We are providing more outpatient services than ever before such as in 1997 we had approximately 120,000 outpatient visits and in 2002 we exceeded more than 210,000. We are providing more services in the surgical area as we have tripled the amount of surgeons available and we are now operating both surgical suites. Also, Chief Pyle has placed a huge emphasis on diabetes and we now have a team approach of many providers to the treatment of diabetes as well as a new facility in Talihina.
One of our biggest concerns for the delivery of health care is you, our patients, having access to care. One way we are trying to provide better access to care is by building clinics and locating services closer to you. We are also trying to provide more services in the existing clinics by adding new providers and rotating providers from Talihina to the outlying clinics.
In closing, Chief Pyle, myself and the rest of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Health Care Services will continue to strive to meet our vision of providing the best rural health care in America.
