The Choctaw Nation Hearing Clinic is a full service office equipped to provide all services regarding hearing problems. We also travel to all six satellite clinics: Poteau, Stigler, McAlester, Hugo, Broken Bow, and Idabel. These locations provide convenience to the patient where limited services are offered such as: hearing screenings and hearing aid services – fitting, adjustment, cleaning, and repair.
In the event a hearing loss is detected the EDH program may be utilized to purchase hearing aids. It is the same program that supplies eyeglasses and dentures. New hearing aids may be dispensed every three years as needed. Requirements for this service are:
Must be Choctaw
Must complete a short application
Submit copies of your Social Security Card and your Membership Card (not CDIB).
For those of you who are not Choctaw but are in need of hearing aids you should first check with your tribal headquarters for any medical device assistance available. We are happy to work with your tribe in providing the best care possible.
Some tribes fall under IHS funding; nearby IHS facilities with audiology departments include Claremore Indian Hospital and Lawton Indian Hospital. Please check with these organizations for information on eligibility guidelines and requirements.
A final option is the availability of direct purchase, you may buy the hearing aids at government contract prices – the average hearing aid dispensed costs $300. They come with a two or three year warranty and an initial trial period of 60 days. Don’t put off getting a hearing aid for any reason, the longer you do the worse it will get.
Hearing aids are purchased from leading hearing aid companies such as Starkey, Micro-Tech, Siemens, Phonak, and Unitron to bring you the highest standards in hearing aid technology. When selecting a hearing aid there are many options available including; size/style, color, circuit, volume control, telecoil, memory button, and directional microphones. Our goal is to make the patient as comfortable and satisfied as possible. We custom fit every hearing aid in our office and provide programming, cleaning, and repair service.
Headstart screenings are performed on site at many area schools and newborns in need of follow-up testing are evaluated in our clinic. Anyone concerned about hearing loss should schedule an appointment for testing as soon as possible.
